Keep the beaches clean30 Oct 2008 15:05

Naaktstrand (foto:GUY OOSTERLINCK)Re the recent letters complaining about the cost of cleaning the beaches: In his Oct. 21 letter, Beach-cleanup costs, Miami-Dade County Manager George Burgess said that, ``The value of clean beaches is priceless.''

I would refer government officials to the designated naturist beach at Haulover Beach Park. This beach section is ¼ mile long and sees 1.4 million visitors annually.

At the end of the day, there is little trash on the beach. That's because of organized naturism's commitment to the environment and the American Naturist Society's 40-year-old Beach Etiquette Code. The code requires naturists to keep their beaches clean and to take with them what they bring.

The naturist beach should be a model for other beaches, and we offer to share our Beach Etiquette Code with other beach locations.

RICHARD MASON, president, South Florida Free Beaches/Florida Naturist Association, Miami Shores.
